Jen Psaki Formally Charged With Ethics Violation For Support of Terry McAuliffe

A government watchdog group pointed out Friday that it had recently submitted an ethics complaint against White House press secretary Jen Psaki with respect to a comment she made about ex-Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a Dem that is campaigning for re-election to his old position.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington pointed out that Psaki had violated the Hatch Act when she seemed to endorse McAuliffe in the course of Thursday’s White House press briefing. The Hatch Act protects against federal staff members engaging in politics while they are on duty.

In response to a press reporter’s inquiry about Virginia’s Nov. 2 election, Psaki explained she really needed to be “careful about how much political analysis” she supplied in her official capacity. Then Psaki continued, “We’re going to do everything we can to help former Gov. McAuliffe, and we believe in the agenda he’s representing.”

After CREW submitted its grievance, Psaki went on CNN for an interview. In Friday’s interview, Psaki clarified that she really should have utilized the word “he” rather than “we” in response to the questioning.

“While the president has publicly expressed his support for McAuliffe, we’ll leave it to the press and the campaign to provide commentary on the race,” Psaki claimed in a public statement. “I take ethics very seriously and will choose my words more carefully moving forward.”

Early voting is going ahead in Virginia, where McAuliffe grapples with Republican Glenn Youngkin, a former top executive at the personal finance company the “Carlyle Group”. First lady Jill Biden is campaigning with McAuliffe on Friday, plus McAuliffe claimed Head of state Joe Biden was predicted to stop by in coming days.

Presidents and their staff are EXPLICITY forbidden to participate in political campaigning when performing their duties in official capacity. In other words, Jen Psaki broke the LAW by publicly campaigning for McAuliffe. Joe Biden and his wife are also violating this regulation by campaigning for the ex-Virginia Democrat.
