Four police officers have been shot in Chicago over the last two weeks, despite the city’s strict gun control laws.

A total of 17 Chicago police officers have been either shot or shot at since the beginning of the year.

On Thursday, a Chicago Police officer and a security guard were both shot after the guard confronted a shoplifter outside of a Home Depot on the South Side.

The suspect was shot and died from his injuries at the hospital.

The security guard was reportedly shot in the head and is in grave condition. The police officer was shot in the shoulder and is expected to recover.

A female officer was shot on Saturday, March 20, while responding to a call about possible gunfire. After the shooting, the suspect was found firing a gun from the first-floor window of a nearby building. According to police, the suspect had barricaded himself in a building and was convinced to surrender by crisis negotiators after an hours-long standoff with SWAT.

On Sunday, March 14, a 26-year veteran officer was shot by an unknown suspect in 6th District police station parking lot.

The bullet grazed the officer’s chin and he is now recovering. There are no suspects in custody at this time.

On Monday, March 15, an off-duty Chicago police officer was ambushed and shot while waiting at a red light in Calumet Heights, Law Enforcement Today reports. He was in his personal vehicle when two men approached and fired into his car.

The officer is now in fair condition, but no arrests have been made.
